Implementing 5S Rules in My Life📜📌
I don’t know where to start. I have so many dreams. It’s starting to feel like my life will end before I can accomplish them all. There are so many thoughts in my mind, and I’m trying to learn so much that I might be getting exhausted. I’m planning to escape this chaos as soon as possible. Yes, we all know the monotony of corporate life—the tasks, the training sessions, the fast-paced life.
We’re learning so many things. I’ve also started to apply the 5S rule, which we emphasize in our employee training sessions for workplace implementation, to my own life. Slowly but surely, I’m integrating it into my routine, and I want to share how it’s making my life easier. You can watch the video I learned this rule from here.
- SEIRI (Sorting)
I want to take it step by step . First, I started by removing everyone from my life who is unnecessary and triggers me. First, I eliminated people who belittled my dreams and fed off my sadness or failures at every opportunity. I completely removed some people, while I distanced myself from others. I don’t want to isolate myself, and I’ve realized that I’m starting to maintain that balance nicely.
Secondly, I tackled the unnecessary clutter in my living spaces, including my home and office. I removed everything from my room that I didn’t use, leaving only my closet and bed. I also cleared out the piles of resource books from the courses I started for learning and digitized each one of them.
Especially in recent times, the rapid advancement of technology provides us with many opportunities. However, I realized that I couldn’t keep up with technology. I can’t catch everything, but I can benefit from using a tablet, which makes my life easier. Thanks to this, most of my resources, including the novels I’ve read, are now all gathered on a single tablet. Sorting is done for 5S.
- 2-SEITON(Organize)
I might not be able to give an example of this for the people in my life, but I’ve arranged my living space/office in a way that allows me to work as comfortably as possible. I positioned the things I use the most on my desk for easy access. I made similar changes to my room, placing my most frequently used items in a way that makes them easily accessible.
This way, I won’t have to deal with unnecessary clutter that could tire me out in the future. One of the biggest challenges I face, especially when working, is the feeling of not being able to keep up with anything, eventually leading me to stop caring about many things.
I don’t want this to happen. I want to value myself and start each day full of life. That’s why I understand that having a bright and organized environment can be supportive. Also, resting is as important as working, and I want my rest periods to be productive. This is why I believe that having a simple home or office, especially for those living in big cities, serves as a kind of escape.Organizing is done for 5S.
- SEISO (Clean)
I don’t want to write too much about how important cleanliness is.Cleaning is done for 5S.
- SEIKETSU (Standardization)
I want to do everything at specific times as much as possible. I’ve been trying to achieve this for a long time. For now, I’ve set specific days for cleaning and days entirely for myself. I’ve planned all these times. I’m also figuring out when and how often I’ll work on self-improvement. As I mentioned, I started with the days of the week first—deciding when I’ll sleep and when I’ll wake up.
Most of these have been set for a long time. What I want most is to avoid losing touch with socializing while trying to improve myself. In the future, I plan to engage in activities that allow me to both socialize and improve myself. Starndardization is done for 5S.
- SHITSEKU (Discipline)
If there’s one thing I love about myself, it’s that if I want something badly enough, I never give up. It might take me a long time to achieve it, but I won’t quit. I did this while learning English. I might have studied irregularly, but I did it without giving up. However, now I want to start in a more organized way and continue consistently.
The most important aspect of the rules I’m trying to apply in every area of my life is maintaining them regularly. That’s why I want to find something to support myself so that I can continue consistently. There are a few habits I used to have. One was preparing a to-do list every day, but at some point, you get tired of that. The second is the “Don’t Break the Chain” technique I mentioned in my previous writings—doing the things you want to do every day correctly and not breaking the chain. Let’s take this digital. I start by setting reminders for myself in my email every day. It’s an effective method, but I don’t want to get bored of it over time. I might use some apps in the future.
But for now, I’ve set reminders for the important things. The things I haven’t set reminders for have already turned into routine habits. If I find a simpler and more effective method, of course, I’ll continue with different approaches. But for now, I want to keep going in a simple and straightforward way. Discipline is done for 5S.
I realize this has turned into a long piece of writing. Especially after entering professional life, we often complain about how our time for ourselves has decreased and how we are always tired. I believe that by organizing our time, we can achieve many things we want. I may add other methods to this approach I started to improve myself in the future.
Yes, I know everyone says this, but we only have one life, and it’s entirely up to us to add new experiences to it. I’m not saying we need to change our lives. Everyone’s life is very different. Our journey is long, and to keep gaining experience, we need to keep improving ourselves. To do this without exhausting ourselves, we need to know what we truly want and start our journey without delay.
